Reader Contribution "Flogging the Sea"

King Xerxes once had the sea whipped. In vain, yes, but at least he made it into the history books.

Who would one rather be? The mighty Xerxes – or one of his advisors, who sensibly warned him against it, who were of course right... and who have long since been forgotten.

Jokes aside, and old myths for the moment: it sometimes really feels as if my essays are merely "whipping" a hissing surf of nonsense and delusion.
